Blended Family - Wedding Music Ideas
Wedding music ideas are difficult to put together when you are running around crazy trying to get everything done in time. Wedding ceremonies come in all shapes and sizes, but regardless of their nature, there is a lot of work and organization that goes into them. Mom and dad have probably had their round with the wedding and many don’t want to go there again.
Ours was a small gathering with family and our closest friends. If it had been up to us, eloping or a cruise or Vegas wedding would have been fine. But this was not about us it was about the children, the family, and coming together.
In this respect, I planned much of the wedding myself, including putting together all the music. I didn’t want to pay a DJ to play music for us; this was not that kind of affair. Still I wanted the children to have their entrance, a first “Family Dance”, and of course something in the background while everyone was eating and visiting.
Music for your affair is purely personal preference. Finding wedding music you like and putting it together can be the hardest part. But it does not have to be that difficult. The best thing to do is consider who will be there, what kind of music best fits you, your family and your friends. I put together four music CDs to cover the time frame for the wedding. This worked out wonderfully for us.
The first CD was a compilation of piano music that can be found at your local music store, I got mine from Wal-Mart. This was simple and elegant background music for everyone to enjoy while getting seated and waiting for the ceremony to begin.
The second CD was the “procession” music. “Pachelbel Canon in D and Other Baroque Favorites” has several popular procession songs. Track 1, easy does it and beautiful, was popped in and off the ceremony went. Once we were all in place, the music was stopped.

Our background and dinner music was a complimentary selection of music that suited the whole family. There was just a bar or two of music that was a little more rock during a quiet part of dinner that I might have changed (thank you Creed), but other than that I think it was perfect for us. The parents ooohed an ahhhed over Ray Charles’ “Georgia” and then the children started humming and singing to Nickelback’s “If everyone cared”. It worked well for us.

The children decided to start the dance portion of the evening a little sooner. This was great especially since you will find that much of the music is tailored to their tastes. Their enjoyment was the entertainment for the evening and everyone agreed… they were little stars that night! Of course, we got to have our first dance, and one other slow dance, but the rest was all kiddos!

The wedding music was comprised of four parts:
-music for everyone to get comfortable
-a song for the procession
-dinner and mingling music
-and finally some dancing fun
This was a simple compilation of wedding music that made our blended family ceremony a huge success.
