Blended Family Travel & Vacation is good for the whole family!
Vacation and blended family travel is an opportune time to strengthen and bond the blended family with fun memories. However, family travel can be a challenge for every working family. Having said that, family vacations for the blended family is no simple task.
First there are scheduling issues. When do we have the children, when do we not? Do we need to switch weekends, or are there extracurricular functions, or does the other parent have plans that cannot be changed. There is much to consider when planning a vacation for the family.
Once you have figured out the when, it is time to look to the how.
There is the issue of accommodations. If you’re anything like my blended family, you have more than the average number of children. This means additional forethought and potentially, additional cost. Traditional hotel rooms are only meant for four to five people. This means my blended family is two too many in most situations. Two rooms is a solution for us, four in one room and three in the other (usually girls – boys).
But what if you don’t wish to be separated for your entire vacation? I can’t say that I blame you.
There are alternatives if you plan ahead. Some hotels have suites that are similar to mini apartments and will accommodate a larger family. If you are staying more than one night, consider
renting a house or cabin
. There are many web sites that offer a great selection of rentals available for popular vacation spots. Plus, on a per night cost basis, vacation rent homes are usually less than your average hotel room (especially if you’re renting two a night)!
Another option is to rent an RV or pop up trailer and stay in one the many
National and State Parks
. The parks usually offer many other amenities like clubhouses with activities, pools, outdoor games and activities and more. This can be cost affective as well as allow you more freedom to visit the destinations of your choice.
The all inclusive family vacation is becoming increasingly popular especially for blended family travel. The act of including accommodations, food and beverage, and activities has simplified the vacation process. Usually these places are centered around beaches, family cruises, or themed resort areas and can be quite affordable. This is certainly a viable option for the already over-stretched blended family coordinator!
With a little planning and some money saving techniques, you and your blended family can have the best family vacation ever and make memories that will last a lifetime.
