Poochy Parody... The Importance Of The Blended Family Pet
Considering a blended family pet? You LOVE cats. He HATES them.
He loves big slobbery dogs that weigh more than three kids combined… you love the little lap dogs that can ride around in your purse if you have to head to the bank. You’re allergic, he can’t stand the hair… and I think everyone on all sides of the fence agree about the litter box… ewww!
A family pet is important to a blended family in many respects.
A pet becomes a family member, coming in after the fact, much like blended families must do. When introducing a pet to a blended family, it can be a catalyst to bonding. The pet brings everyone together in a mutual endeavor… nurturing and taking care of this being. Pets can come in all shapes and sizes. Here are some tips for Choosing the right pet.
Our blended family pet? His name is Freckles!!! He’s a little cocker spaniel mix of some sort that was found wandering and needed a home. He loves the kids and requires a great deal of attention. He wags his tail, licks our noses… he’s always glad to see us, even if we’re not home all the time. It’s up to us to get him the proper food and medicine, make sure he has plenty of fresh water and gets a walk around the block every now and then. He smiles at us and he makes us smile. As a blended family he helps glue the “us” together. He’s our family dog.
A good family dog or family cat, hamsters or gerbils, pet reptiles like snakes, turtles, hermit crabs, or even fish. It doesn’t really matter what kind of pet becomes part of the family. It is the act of sharing the experience that is so important for the blended family.
